I was on the search for a service, and like any Gen-Z, I turned to Instagram because that’s where that service is mostly available.
I slid into the DMs of nearly 30 businesses, expecting a seamless customer experience.
But was I wrong! 😅
I rolled my sleeves as a digital marketer and started noting things that were commonly done wrong ❌
👉 First and foremost, imagine this: you initiate contact with a business, and their immediate response is, “Hey, let’s chat on WhatsApp.” 📲
Um, what? I barely know you! Keep the conversation where it started, at least until we’ve established some rapport.
👉 Another pet peeve was the absence of a link in their Instagram bio. Come on, give us something to work with! 🔗
Even a portfolio or a PDF in Google Drive would do. We’re patiently waiting for your reply; a little something to research won’t hurt. You’re losing some serious business there.
👉 Remember the power of visuals. If you’re in the hospitality business, posting high-quality images and videos is paramount. Stalk the top players and competitors in your industry and get inspired to publish content likewise 🖼
👉 Using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation in your messages goes a long way in showing that you take your business seriously 🥱
Ditch the teenage chat lingo and embrace a more professional tone in your Instagram interactions.
👉 Lastly, a word for service-based businesses: please, for the love of all that’s holy, let us know if you’re no longer in business. It’s frustrating to be left hanging, wondering if our messages are vanishing into the ether 🙄
